Community gatherings and cultural celebrations

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California organizes cultural events and community activities throughout the year to bring people together. The Washoe Tribe's events are open to both the general public and tribal members, creating meaningful opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and education. The tribe's cultural events promote community engagement and cultural identity while honoring centuries of Wá∙šiw traditions. Community events include cultural festivals, environmental and cultural stewardship activities, educational presentations, and other community celebrations.

Major public gatherings showcase traditional performances, music, storytelling, and native American arts. The Waší∙šiw ɁitdéɁ Festival is an annual Indigenous culture and arts celebration featuring traditional arts, crafts, basketry competitions, and food. Attendees can shop from craft and food vendors, enjoy live music, and sample popular dishes such as Indian tacos. Events such as the Stewart Father's Day Powwow and Nevada Day Powwow celebrate Native American traditions in Carson City, drawing visitors from across the region. Other popular activities include a cornhole tournament, horseshoe tournament, hand game tournament, and fun run for the whole family. For these events, visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs and enjoy kids' activities designed to pass cultural traditions to the next generation.

Alongside public festivals, seasonal and traditional activities connect families directly to ancestral practices. Traditional activities include the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout Release Day and pine nut gathering in the fall. The Washoe Tribe hosts the Bear Dance, one of its most important traditional ceremonies, marking seasonal renewal and community unity. The tribe regularly offers traditional arts and crafts classes and workshops, while regular events include Elders Dinners, family craft nights, and movie days.
